Together for a Cleaner, Greener and Brighter Tomorrow
🌍 What Is E-Waste?
Electronic waste, commonly known as e-waste, refers to discarded electrical and electronic equipment and their components that are no longer useful, working or wanted.
Old chargers, damaged earphones, unused cables, keyboards and other small electronic accessories are examples of e-waste. Even small electronic items should be handled responsibly instead of being thrown into ordinary rubbish bins.
🎯 Our Purpose
To develop environmentally responsible students who understand the impact of electronic waste and actively participate in its safe collection, segregation, awareness generation and scientific disposal through the 5R approach.
🚀 Our Mission
To encourage a student-led approach to e-waste awareness in the school, helping students understand the journey of electronic waste—from identification and collection to segregation, recycling and responsible disposal through authorised channels.
⚠️ Why Should We Care About E-Waste?
- Environmental pollution: Improper disposal can pollute soil and water.
- Health risks: Some electronic products contain hazardous substances that can harm people if mishandled.
- Harm to living beings: Pollution can affect plants, animals and ecosystems.
- Resource loss: Electronics contain valuable materials that may be recovered through proper recycling.
- Fire risks: Damaged batteries, particularly lithium-ion batteries, may catch fire if mishandled.
Remember: Never burn electronic waste or dismantle electronic devices at home or at school.
✅ Acceptable Items: What May Students Bring?
Students may bring only small, non-hazardous e-waste items for awareness and collection, subject to teacher instructions.
Items should be dry, handled carefully and brought only after checking with the teacher. Mobile covers are accepted as part of this awareness collection, although non-electronic covers are not technically e-waste.
❌ Items That Must NOT Be Brought
For everyone's safety, students must not bring the following items to school:
Important: Do not touch, carry or attempt to pack leaking, swollen, hot or damaged batteries. Inform a teacher or responsible adult. These items require appropriate handling by trained personnel.
♻️ Follow the 5R Principle
The 5R approach helps us reduce waste and use electronic products responsibly throughout their life cycle.
Say no to unnecessary gadgets.
Buy less and use devices longer.
Pass on working devices responsibly.
Repair when safe and practical.
Use authorised recycling channels.
🛡️ Safety First: Handle E-Waste Responsibly
- Do not open, dismantle or break electronic devices.
- Never touch damaged, leaking or swollen batteries.
- Keep collected items away from water and heat.
- Wash your hands after handling collected items.
- Follow the instructions given by teachers.
- Do not mix e-waste with food waste or ordinary rubbish.
- Do not bring any prohibited item to school.
- Ensure collected e-waste is transferred to an authorised collection or recycling channel.
👩🎓 How Can Students Make a Difference?
- Identify small, unused electronic items at home with the help of parents.
- Learn to distinguish e-waste from ordinary household waste.
- Bring only the permitted items listed on this page.
- Spread awareness through posters, slogans, speeches and classroom discussions.
- Encourage family members to repair and reuse devices where practical.
- Never throw e-waste into drains, open spaces or ordinary waste bins.
- Encourage responsible recycling through authorised channels.
🔄 The Journey of E-Waste
Responsible e-waste management follows a clear journey:
IDENTIFICATION → SAFE COLLECTION → SEGREGATION → AUTHORISED RECYCLING → MATERIAL RECOVERY → NEW PRODUCTS
Recovered materials can help reduce the need for new raw materials. The correct collection and recycling process also helps prevent hazardous waste from being handled improperly.
👩🏫 A Message to Teachers and Parents
Teachers and parents play an important role in helping children develop environmentally responsible habits. Students should be guided to understand the importance of e-waste management without handling hazardous materials.
Any school collection must be supervised by designated staff and transferred to an appropriate authorised collection or recycling facility. Students should not be asked to dismantle, repair or process electronic waste themselves.
🌱 Our Pledge for a Greener Tomorrow
I will use electronic devices responsibly, avoid unnecessary purchases, repair and reuse products whenever possible, and ensure that electronic waste is handled safely and recycled through appropriate channels.
